The Institute of Estuarine and Coastal Research, and the State
Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research (SKLEC), is
devoted to undertake the applied basic research on estuaries
and coast. The orientations of study are: estuarine evolution
and sediment dynamics, coastal dynamic geomorphology and the
dynamic sedimentary process, and estuarine and coastal ecology
and environment. Through a comprehensive analysis of the overlapping
and penetration among different disciplines, the institute aims
at conducting an in-depth study of the various processes of
estuarine and coastal dynamic sedimentation and dynamic geomorphology
in various places and at different times as well as human impacts
on natural environment and processes, revealing the interaction
between different physical factors and interfaces in different
areas of estuaries and coast and the law governing the changes,
developing a theoretical system for the discipline of estuary
and coastal research, and meanwhile, providing service for the
construction of harbor and navigation channels, coastal resources
development, ecological environment protection and coastal zone
planning and management.
